Beckett,
If you’re reading this, well, you know the last-letter drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there was any chance you could have saved me, you would have.
I need one thing from you: get out of the army and get to Telluride.
My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. It’s not fair.
And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart. She’s going to need help.
So if I’m gone, that means I can’t be there for Ella. I can’t help them through this. But you can. So I’m begging you, as my best friend, to go take care of my sister, my family.
Please don’t make her go through it alone.
Ryan

My Review
Couldn’t put it down!!
Wow. My emotions were not ready. I think I instantly became a Rebecca Yarros fan.
Ella is a strong-willed and independent woman, bound and determined to make it on her own. Mother of twins, she pours her heart and soul into her family. When she begins writing letters to a man in her brother’s circle, her capacity to be honest and love expands. Through heartache after heartache, she learns to trust and let go of some of that power she clings to.
Beckett is a man with emotional depth, but many can’t see it. They wouldn’t know it from the way he carries himself. Self-depricating and quick to criticize his past. He’s on a mission and drags his past with him. Decisions that he’s made. He keeps it all close to his chest. Heartache forms bonds that can’t be broken. When it comes down to it, he’s steady and unrelenting and won’t let those he loves down.
Yarros created characters with depth and personality, and draws the reader to form emotional connections. Her storytelling abilities cause readers to form emotional bonds with characters. This story will stick with the reader long after the last chapter.
I tried my best not to add details to my review because I fear I’ll give something away. I think going in blind will be best for readers because they will be fully engaged and leave with aches in their hearts, hope, and a sense of peace.
You will definitely be seeing more reviews by Rebecca soon!
